Experts named Russia’s promising LNG markets in Asia

Southeast Asian countries could become a key region for Russia’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. This was reported by RIA News With reference to a study by the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology.

According to analysts, LNG imports to the region will increase by 90 billion cubic meters by 2040. However, it seems unlikely that the largest gas exporters, Indonesia and Malaysia, will turn into importers due to their geographical distance from Russia.

“The Vietnam and Philippines markets could become much more interesting,” the study says. By 2030, Vietnam will be able to import more than 5 million tons of LNG per year, and the Philippines will be able to import more than 2-3 million tons.

Experts note the active cooperation between Russia and Vietnam in the oil and gas sector. In particular, Gazprom EP has already invested in the construction of gas turbine power plants in central Vietnam.

Another promising market is Singapore. LNG imports could reach 3.8 million tons per year by 2025 and 9 million tons by 2030. Russia already had experience in supplying gas to Singapore through trader GM&T.
