According to the report of the Rosneft press service, at the exhibition forum “Russia” representatives of Rosneft and the Federal Land Use Agency (Rosnedra) presented the results of a scientific expedition in the Russian Arctic.

Alexander Pashali, Director of Rosneft’s Scientific, Technical Development and Innovation Department, said that Rosneft has been implementing the largest scientific research program in the Arctic since the Soviet period for more than 10 years. According to him, during this time, expeditions were made to study glaciers, icebergs, marine and coastal areas, and rare animal and bird species.

“As part of the project, almost all the seas of the Russian Arctic have already been covered, if you look at this work holistically, 26 wells were drilled over 4 field seasons, more than 2 kilometers of cores were selected, half of them this year,” he said.

Journalists were also shown granite taken from the continental crust of the Chukchi Sea. This core will be sent primarily for analysis using isotope methods in order to determine the geological structure and age of the geological complexes.

The Arctic region is one of the least studied regions, which means important geological discoveries can be made there, said Evgeny Petrov, head of the federal agency for subsoil exploitation.

“There are many places in the Russian Arctic, in our marginal seas, where you can obtain unique geological results relatively inexpensively. If we talk specifically about the Eastern Arctic, it is extremely poorly studied by drilling today; “We mainly rely on remote methods, which often do not always allow us to answer certain questions clearly,” he said.

Pashalı added that the business volume increases every year but is not limited to drilling.

“As part of one of the seismic expeditions, Rosneft and Rosnedra organized experimental studies to test the broadband seismic technology recently developed together with Innopraktika experts,” Pashali said. said.
