If Russia stops supplies, Finland may face the problem of purchasing liquefied natural gas (LNG) from other suppliers at higher prices. In return, Germany can buy back the vacated quantities from Russia. This was stated by FNEB analyst Igor Yushkov “Lentoy.ru”.
Yushkov noted that Cryogas-Vysotsk LNG, the Novatek project and Gazprom supply LNG to Finland. He also noted that Finland is switching to ruble payment in 2022 and replacing its pipeline gas with Russian LNG. Therefore, giving up on Russia’s LNG will now be a problem.
Yushkov also suggested that Germany might be interested in purchasing Russian LNG, given the existence of terminals to receive such gas. He also noted that Russia as a state would not suffer from Finland’s rejection of Russian LNG due to the lack of export duties on such gases.
