Sber customers increasingly began to pay for purchases using biometrics, the bank’s press service reported.

Since June 2023, when Sber started developing the “Pay with a Smile” service, Russians have used it more than half a million times.

Most often, Moscow, Moscow region and St. Petersburg residents pay for purchases with a smile.

Purchases made using biometrics are most in demand in supermarkets, but expanding the service allows this method to be used for larger purchases. For example, the largest purchase for which the buyer paid with a smile was jewelry, its price was more than 200 thousand rubles.

“Sber was one of the first in the country, ahead of the market, to begin to develop payments using biometrics and introduce it into the most common area of u200bu200blife – food retailing, connecting networks across the country. Over the last 5 months, the number of smile payments has increased by 40 times, which means that we managed to create a convenient, fast and secure payment service that more and more people are starting to use,” said Sberbank Kirill Tsarev.

He added that today 36 million bank customers can pay for their purchases with a smile.

“By the end of the year, we plan to expand the smile payment service to new retail segments (electronics stores, fast food restaurants and others), thus ensuring that our customers have the opportunity to pay more conveniently and smile more often,” Tsarev said.

To use the “Pay with a Smile” service, you need to activate facial recognition in your profile in the SberBank Online application, select a payment card and create a security code.
