The Russian government has submitted a bill to the State Duma that would temporarily allow the sale of alcohol in duty-free shops at Russian airports. The bill was published at: database Duma data.
According to the document, the sale of alcohol is allowed in duty-free shops located in the departure and arrival halls of domestic flights until June 30, 2026. The purpose of the bill is to support airports and duty-free store owners who suffered losses due to the epidemic and sanctions.
Since 2019, the number of owners of such stores has decreased by 20%, and alcohol sales have decreased by 64%, according to the Federal Customs Service. The government estimates that allowing the sale of alcohol on domestic flights would increase the industry’s revenue by about 9 billion rubles a year.
