Post Bank warned Russians that scammers will become more active during the public holidays of November 4-6. The message from the credit institution was received by the editors of socialbites.ca.
“The activities of fraudsters, especially against the elderly and people receiving social assistance from the state, are increasing. The bank has recorded several variations of this type of fraud. According to one of them, the elderly receive a call from fake employees of the Russian Social Fund. “They say that retirees have the right to receive additional payments from the state in honor of National Unity Day,” the bank writes.
Scammers offer to deal with registration of such benefits. Scammers try to trick victims into providing an SMS code to access their bank accounts. Once attackers get it, they can not only steal all the money but also take out a large loan.
“Young audiences are influenced by the internet. For example, on fake accounts on social networks or instant messengers, scammers may say that women on maternity leave have the right to receive social payments from the state in honor of the holiday for children. Fraudsters offer between 20-50 thousand rubles,” the bank explained.
Victims are asked to follow a link to a fake website where they can “easily get money by typing their card information into a special form.” It turned out to be a form of payment. Once the details are entered, money is withdrawn from the account.
The bank reminded that you should not tell anyone the short code, bank card information and CVV code on the back of SMS messages under any circumstances. Moreover, you should not continue talking on the phone with strangers who offer various assistance in receiving certain payments. It is better to close the search and look for one or another structure yourself.
