The cost of kitchen cabinets in Russia increased by 36% at the end of September 2023 compared to the same month last year. General Director of the First Furniture Factory Alexander Shestakov told socialbites.ca about this.
In the same period, kitchen furniture prices increased by 11% and wooden wardrobe prices for bedrooms increased by 6%.
“The weakening of the ruble caused prices to rise. Imported furniture prices increased the most in proportion to the weakening of the Russian currency. Unlike domestic companies, foreign companies cannot control prices. But Russian manufacturers also had to increase the cost of some products containing a high percentage of imported components,” explained the expert.
He emphasized that spare parts, furniture fabric, polish, paint and chemical components are mainly imported. For example, the country is 95% dependent on abroad for fittings (auxiliary parts and parts required for the manufacture of a solid object).
“Using the same paint or coating-related chemical ingredients on furniture does not significantly affect prices. But the share of fittings in the cost of furniture can reach up to 40% of its cost. That is why the price of cabinet furniture, such as kitchen cabinets, has increased significantly,” said Shestakov.
Prices of upholstered furniture, including imported hardware and fabrics, have also increased, he explained.
“We are primarily talking about sofas in which complex foreign folding systems are installed. Upholstered furniture using domestic spring blocks has become cheaper. “The cost of stools, tables and beds has not increased so significantly,” he concluded.
Executive Director of Angstrem Vadim Chernushkin guess In a conversation with socialbites.ca, he said that the cost of furniture production in Russia will increase by 17-20% by the end of this year, which will lead to a comparable increase in prices.
