The Russian Ministry of Agriculture has proposed introducing a quota of up to 160 thousand tons for duty-free imports of certain types of chicken meat next year. In this respect he is writing “Prime”, citing the ministry’s press service.
This means that chicken meat in quantities not exceeding this threshold can be supplied to Russia free of charge.
The ministry explained that this was necessary to “stabilize the price situation and meet the needs of the domestic market for chicken meat and edible chicken eggs in conditions of increased demand for these goods.”
On October 26, the Ministry of Agriculture proposed a six-month ban on the export of certain types of poultry meat and edible eggs from Russia. The Ministry later published the draft of the relevant order.
On Wednesday, the ministry announced proposals regarding the types of products and the duration of the proposed restrictions. The ban should be implemented between December 1, 2023 and May 31, 2024, as planned by the ministry. It will affect certain types of poultry, including fresh, refrigerated and frozen unslaughtered poultry. Fresh and chilled carcass parts and eggs may also be subject to restrictions.
This will not have a noticeable impact on prices within the country, reported The newspaper “Kommersant” refers to analysts of the company “Yakov and Partners”. On October 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin asked the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dmitry Patrushev, the following question: “Why has chicken become so expensive?” The Ministry of Agriculture attributed this to the decrease in production volumes in recent months and the increase in production costs due to the high dollar exchange rate. According to Rosstat, from the beginning of the year to October 23, the price of chicken meat in Russia increased by 28.5% and the price of chicken eggs increased by 15.87%.
Previously, experts announced the sharp increase in chicken meat prices and promised a “return” in prices.
