Sejm (Parliament) National Security and Defense Committee Chairman Laurynas Kaciunas said that the defense tax, the need for which is currently being discussed in Lithuania, may be valid in the country from 2025. The channel reports this LRT.

“The idea of ​​​​finding the most acceptable solution for sustainable financing of military needs, including the introduction of a defense tax, is on the agenda,” the chairman of the Sejm committee said.

The decision on the new tax in Lithuania will most likely be made in 2024.

“Then the tax will go into effect in 2025,” Kasciunas said.

According to the chairman of the committee, it is worthwhile to achieve the most optimal version of such tax collection.

“I will invite all political parties that signed the memorandum on defense policy,” Kaciunas warned.

In the future, representatives of the Ministry of Finance will be tasked with analyzing the most appropriate defense tax formula.
