Alexander Timofeev, associate professor of the Department of Informatics at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, explained that Bulgaria decided to impose an excise tax on the transit of gas from the Russian Federation to Serbia and Hungary for political reasons. This was reported by RIA News.
According to the expert, the high tax situation on gas transit from Russia is due to the desire of Bulgarians to make money.
As Timofeev noted, the Serbs could understand the Bulgarians if they bought the gas themselves, but we are only talking about transit.
According to the agency’s interlocutor, Bulgaria has not been able to purchase Russian gas since April. The reason for the refusal is the reluctance to pay for the gas resource in Russian currency.
Timofeev also did not rule out that the introduction of an excise tax on Bulgarian gas transit could be due to difficult relations with neighboring countries since the Second World War.
“In addition, exemptions from anti-Russian sanctions were previously introduced for Serbia and Hungary, and now competition in the gas market will intensify,” the expert concluded.
Also in the office stated On discussing a long-term gas contract with the Republika Srpska.
