The European Commission (EC) is currently analyzing the decision of the Bulgarian authorities to increase the tariff for gas transit from Russia. The representative of the organization, Olof Gill, announced this during a briefing with journalists. RIA News.

Reporters present at the event asked the official to describe how Brussels reacted to Sofia’s actions. At the same time, media representatives emphasized that previously the governments of Serbia and Hungary spoke negatively about this situation.

“We are evaluating this decision and discussing it with the Bulgarian authorities. I can also add that EU sanctions against Russia have been developed, adopted and reviewed at a pan-European level,” Gill said.

He also explained that regional community countries should maintain unity in providing assistance to Ukraine.

At the beginning of October the Bulgarian government introduced A new tax on the transit of Russian gas through its territory. According to the law that came into force, Sofia will charge 20 levs (about $10.7) per megawatt-hour of fuel supplied.

Later Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjártó reported about the republic’s readiness to respond to increased fees for gas transit from Russia. According to him, Budapest and Belgrade have already agreed on their stance on this issue.

Rumen Radev, formerly President of Bulgaria criticized The country’s council of ministers for the decision to increase fuel transportation tariffs.
