Bulgaria wants to reduce Gazprom’s revenue from gas transit to Europe

Bulgaria increased transit taxes on Russian gas passing through its territory to Hungary and Serbia. This was reported by RIA News Referring to the statement of Bulgarian Finance Minister Asen Vassilev.

According to him, the switching fee of 20 lev (€10) per MWh is a fifth of the current gas price in Europe. This is significantly higher than normal tolls. Vasilev noted that the new tariff will not affect prices for consumers in Hungary and Serbia, but will only reduce Gazprom’s profits. According to him, this is in line with the EU’s goal of reducing dependence on Russian energy sources.

Hungary had previously described Bulgaria’s decision as unacceptable and a threat to its supplies. Bulgaria informed the European Commission about the new tariff, which is examining this issue.
