More than half of Russia’s exports to Europe in August 2023 were paid in rubles, according to reports RIA News With reference to data from the Central Bank of Russia.

The historical record for Russia’s use of rubles in export payments was recorded in June at 53.2%, and in August the figure was similar at 53.1%. Only 34.1% of payments in August this year were in unfriendly currencies, while the rest accounted for 12.8%.

The highest percentage of use of the ruble in settlements with Russia was seen by Caribbean countries, where 83.8% of exports were denominated in the Russian national currency.

On the other hand, while countries in Africa and Asia paid Russia mostly in the currencies of friendly countries, the share of the ruble in exports to these regions was also notable – 11.5% and 36% respectively.

In North America and Oceania, currencies of unfriendly countries continue to dominate the payment of Russian exports.
