Radovan Viskovic, Prime Minister of Republika Srpska (an entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina), said that an agreement on long-term gas supplies from Russia will be signed by the end of 2023. He talked about this in an interview with the newspaper. “News”.

According to the politician, confirmation of the signing of such an agreement was received at a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, in which Gazprom management also participated.

Viskovic also noted that the issue of routes for the supply of Russian gas to Republika Srpska is complex. In particular, natural gas goes to Hungary via Ukraine and to Serbia via Bulgaria. In this context, the republic is expected to receive gas from Serbia through a pipeline under construction.

Viskovic emphasized that Bosnian and Herzegovinian officials still continue to reject the construction of a natural gas pipeline from Serbia, most likely due to pressure from the US Embassy in Sarajevo. At the same time, a project is being prepared for the construction of the natural gas pipeline extending from Croatia to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Višković stated that Republika Srpska would approve the construction of a gas pipeline from Croatia only if the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina allow the construction of a gas pipeline from Serbia.

If a mutual agreement cannot be reached, Viskovic announced the existence of a backup option that he will implement together with Gazprom. We are talking about the gasification of the Republika Srpska and the construction of two gas power plants with a capacity of 100 MW each.
