Sri Lankan authorities announced that visa fees for citizens of Russia, China, India, Thailand and Indonesia have been abolished. This was reported by TASS.

According to the country’s Minister of Tourism, Harin Fernando, a draft law regarding this has been submitted to the government. Tourists from these five countries will be exempt from paying visa fees, but will still need to obtain a visa for security reasons. This measure is designed to increase the flow of tourists to Sri Lanka, which is trying to overcome the consequences of the economic crisis. The country’s government has set a goal of reaching 5 million tourists per year.

It has not yet been stated exactly when the abolition of visa fees will come into force. The decision is expected to be made shortly after the approval of the Council of Ministers.
