Russian financial fraudsters have begun using music from bank advertisements to imitate the operation of “contact centres”. In this respect he is writing Telegram channel Baza with a link to VTB Bank analysts who discovered a new hacker technique.

“This gives the victim a sense of confidence that he is really calling the bank. Then a fake employee of the call center enters the conversation and resorts to all sorts of unpleasant methods to get codes from SMS, logins, passwords,” Baza explained the fraudsters’ plan.
If the victim gives this information to fraudsters, money may be deducted from his account.

According to the Central Bank, the volume of transactions carried out without the consent of Russians reached 3.62 billion rubles in April-June 2023, up from 4.5 billion in January-March. The number of successful attempts to steal money from Russians has increased. Fraudsters attacked Russians’ bank accounts 279,706 times in the second quarter, compared to 252,111 in the first quarter. 46.5% of attacks in the second quarter were carried out using social engineering methods (tricking a user into obtaining bank card information – socialbites.ca). While the number of such attacks increased by 31.51% to 18,443, the number of attacks that compromised user authentication or credentials also increased.
