Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjártó said that Hungary is now forced to look for new routes for oil and gas supplies because previous routes were interrupted by the conflict in Ukraine. This was reported by Bloomberg TV.
As the head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, serious opportunities are opening up in this field thanks to cooperation with Turkey, Transcaucasian and Central Asian countries.
“Therefore, we need new connections, new supply routes, and the Turkish states offer a very good opportunity to be a bridge between the East and the West,” Szijjártó said.
The diplomat also noted that Hungary signed a contract with Turkey stipulating that it would purchase 275 million cubic meters of gas from Turkey at the beginning of the new year.
Hungary bought 100 million cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan this year. The Hungarian Foreign Minister concluded that there are plans to buy gas from Turkmenistan and Qatar.
