Member of the European Parliament from France, Mathilde Androuet, appealed to the European Commission with a request to explain the record increase in the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia. This was reported by “lenta.ru” Based on the MP’s letter.

Androuet notes that the REPowerEU plan (the European Commission’s plan to phase out the consumption of Russian fossil fuels by 2030) aims to reduce dependence on Russian natural gas. At the same time, the volume of LNG imports from Russia to Europe continues to increase.

“According to Global Witness, EU countries purchased 22 million cubic meters of LNG between January and July 2023; This figure increased by 40% from 15 million cubic meters in the same period of 2021. (…) This is a much sharper increase in Russian LNG imports than the average global growth of 6%,” Androuet writes.

The MP asked the European Commission to offer possible solutions to the problem of LNG imports from Russia.
