For many years I joked about skullcaps: when our leading fighters against the regime say that they will finally throw off unnecessary modesty and begin to act in proven ways. And he joked!
The truth, as always, surpassed all of my scariest and hilarious assumptions.
At the Anti-War Conference in Vilnius, prominent opponents proposed publishing a “good Russian” document. To achieve this, you need to confirm (!) three theses in writing: “Special operations is a crime, the regime is illegitimate, Crimea is Ukraine.”
Of course I would add a fourth one, for example the written waiver of the parents, but for some reason the opposition did not consider it.
Also, good-faced people who do all this should get a special passport that gives them a lot of choices: help finding a job in the West, access to hotels and crypto exchanges, and much more.
I couldn’t even reflect my own feelings when I read it. And finally, he could: are they serious?!
Do adults who pretend to be called intellectuals seriously promote electronic labels that separate “good” and “bad”?
Nothing, absolutely nothing, distinguishes the mark of a concentration camp prisoner from the passport of a “good Russian”. Of course, given the scale. In the first case, this is a world tragedy, in the second – a black comedy hastily born by a traveling circus of clowns, who for some reason call themselves the opposition and the intelligentsia.
The current Russian passport does not have the “nationality” column. Apparently, even under Comrade Stalin there was no column “political views”.
Outside 2022. Adult people are seriously busy electing their fellow countrymen for political reasons. And for some reason they call it “conference”.
Actually, it would be funny if it wasn’t so scary. At the beginning of the 20th century, fascist ideas did not seem dangerous either, they seemed to be something exotic and marginal. We know the result.
Ever since the Black Lives Matter movement, I’m honestly scared for the future. Because it is not shameful to say that some are superior to others in the public sphere. All animals are equal. But some animals are more equal than others, as in a notorious novel.
And these voices are getting louder. And they no longer seem like separate cries of urban lunatics.
Russian opposition reached progressive Western countries. But it’s not just him. He reached the moral and ethical line that separated human history before and after the Nuremberg Trials.
After all, someone had to say it out loud.
