A court in Istanbul sentenced former Thodex CEO Faruk Fatih Özer to 11,196 years in prison for fraud, managing a criminal organization and money laundering. This has been reported Bloomberg.

It was noted that two of Özer’s relatives were also found guilty.

Before serving his sentence, he stressed that he was “smart enough to head any institution in the world” and would not have acted so unprofessionally if Thodex were a criminal organization.

Turkish crypto exchange Thodex in April 2021 announced about temporary closure due to “abnormal movements of funds in accounts”.

A lawsuit was filed against the head of Thodex, who stated that the target audience of the crypto exchange is 400 thousand people, 390 thousand of which are active customers. Özer said on his Twitter account that the accusations were unfounded. He claimed that the cessation of operations was due to the cyber attack and that nothing happened to the customers’ money. Özer also promised that he would return to Turkey in a few days to resolve the problems.
