Polish oil and gas company Orlen is negotiating the purchase of the PCK oil refinery in Schwedt, Germany. The agency was told RAP Polish government representative Anna Lukashevskaya-Tretyakovskaya.

“Negotiations are ongoing. That is all I can say,” said Lukashevskaya-Tretyakovskaya, answering the question about whether Orlen will buy a German refinery.

Earlier, Orlen’s chairman, Daniel Obaitek, expressed his readiness to buy the Schwedte refinery, provided that it does not have a Russian company among its owners.

Until recently, the PCK plant mainly processed Russian oil supplied from the Druzhba pipeline. Its annual capacity is 11.6 million tons. The future of the business is in jeopardy after the sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation.

Currently, 37.5% of the refinery is owned by Rosneft Deutschland, 25% by AET (subsidiaries of Rosneft and Eni) and 37.5% by Shell Deutschland. In 2022, German authorities transferred Rosneft’s subsidiaries under the control of the state agency, despite the objections of the Russian company.

The acquisition of PCK will allow Orlen to change its Russian oil supply and expand its presence in the German market. Experts believe that the agreement will be beneficial for the energy security of the region.

Poland at the beginning of August complete Repair of the damaged branch of the Druzhba pipeline on its territory.
