In the January-July 2023 period, the production of wooden tables for schools and universities increased by 67.3%, while the production of tables for kindergartens and other preschool institutions increased by 70.9%. As of August 1, the number of tables reached 365.9 thousand, and the number of tables for kindergartens and other pre-school institutions reached 86.3 thousand.
“With the departure of major foreign furniture manufacturers, including children’s furniture, domestic production began to increase rapidly. In the first seven months of 2023, furniture production in general increased by 8.3% physically and by 15.5% in monetary terms to 228.8 billion RUB. During the same period, the production of children’s furniture made of wood increased by 15% to 486,000 pieces,” said Pavel Chashchin.

There are at least 300 manufacturers of children’s furniture in Russia, and most of them are located in the central region and the Volga region. Furniture for both educational and preschool institutions and children’s furniture for houses and apartments is most often made using chipboards made of birch, spruce and pine, which have a high safety class.
The Government of the Russian Federation also promotes the development of a competitive market for children’s furniture. In the near future, it is planned to amend the Tax Code and reduce the value-added tax rate to 10% for manufacturers of children’s furniture, car seats, diapers and other goods. The State Duma plans to consider the relevant bill in September.
