Radio interview with Olga Daineko, Specialist of the Financial Literacy Center of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, NIFI Sputnik Reminding that the tax payment procedure has changed in Russia, he explained how the payments will now be made.
From January 1 of this year, every Russian taxpayer has a Single Tax Account (UNT). The expert explained that UNS is a kind of electronic wallet from which the Federal Tax Service (FTS) automatically withdraws money to pay taxes, penalties and fines.
Daineko noted that this amount must be renewed before December 1, the deadline for payment of land, property and transport taxes. According to the expert, this can be done through a banking application or tax payment service in your personal account on the website of the Federal Tax Service, as well as through the My Documents center or by postal order. He also suggested that the entire amount be transferred gradually in installments. If there is more than enough money in the account, the balance can be returned through the taxpayer’s personal account, where an application for a refund is created automatically.
The expert also pointed out that the money will be used primarily to pay overdue payments and only then to pay current taxes, penalties and fines.
“If earlier it was possible to choose exactly how much you would pay, now there is no such possibility. If funds in UNS are not sufficient to cover all liabilities and payment dates coincide, money from UNS will be distributed to all accruals in proportion to their size,” he added.
In conclusion, Daineko recalled that the new tax payment procedure is mandatory for all but the self-employed, because they can choose how to pay professional income tax with the help of the EPP or separately.
