Only one in ten Russians regularly receives tax breaks – 10.6%. This is due to a survey on the online financial platform Webbankir, taken by the editors of socialbites.ca.

More than half of the respondents – 56.7% – received no tax breaks. 19% of respondents did this once or twice, and another 13.7% plan to take advantage of the benefits in the future.

Almost half of Russians (46.9%) are sure that it is difficult to get tax breaks. Of these, 28% said it was “quite difficult” and 18.9% – “very difficult”. The opposing view is shared by 53.1%. 17.1% of them stated that it is “very easy” to get a tax deduction, while 36% stated that it is “quite easy”.

Among the difficulties in obtaining deductions, one-third (33.3%) of those surveyed stated collecting the necessary documents. And almost the same number (32.5%) indicated that the number of purchase and service categories where you can get discounts is very limited. 28.7% cannot receive deductions because they have no official income (or very little) and 25.7% find it difficult to apply to the tax office.

The vast majority of respondents (57.3%) believe it is necessary to simplify the procedure in order to obtain a deduction. 46% want the list of categories of goods and services to be expanded. 39.3% believe the tax cuts themselves could be more.

The tax deduction includes a refund of part of the personal income tax (PIT) paid or a reduction in the taxable base. Reimbursement can be obtained for expenses incurred for the purchase of the first apartment, paid education and treatment. Now the maximum amount of deductions can be obtained when buying an apartment, but not more than 260 thousand rubles. The maximum amount of tax deductions for paid educational services is 15.6 thousand rubles. The same can be obtained for the cost of medical services.

The survey was conducted in July and included the possibility of multiple answers to the questions. The study involved 1,500 participants from across Russia.
