The world is threatened by the shortage of orange juice concentrate as well as its rising prices. In this respect writer The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) refers to Klaus Heitlinger, director of the German Juice Association.

The current situation is due to the low harvest level in the territory of Brazil, the world’s largest supplier of orange concentrate. At the same time, similar problems began in the United States, where the spread of hurricanes and diseases of citrus crops led to reduced harvest volumes. In addition, severe weather conditions created a similar situation in Mexico and Spain.

According to the publication, over the year, the price of a pound of orange concentrate has increased by almost a third – from $2.02 to $2.73. At the same time, in January last year, a pound of concentrate was just $1.42. Heitlinger added that if the current situation continues, a crisis may begin in the citrus market next year.
