“We have received information from the Russian embassy that 15 Russian tourists are stranded in Kasol,” said Satwant Atwal Trivedi, acting chief of police for the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.

At least 41 people died in floods caused by five days of heavy rains in northern India. The most difficult situation developed in the foothills of the Himalayas, where the downpour caused landslides. Local rivers blew their banks and flooded many settlements. Also, in the mountainous areas of the northern states, traffic was interrupted – roads were washed away and flooded. This resulted in hundreds of tourists being blocked.
