80% of Sber customers welcome digital initiatives, including biometric identification. Oleg Evseev, Director of Sberbank’s Biometrics Division, shared these results at a VTsIOM press conference dedicated to the results of a survey on Russian perception of biometrics.
“According to our study, 2/3 of customers who have tried biometric services at least once, for example, who underwent biometric identification, will return to using biometrics,” he said.
According to him, now Sberbank serves more than 3 million individual customers per month using biometrics, which makes a total of about 5 million transactions per month.
Evseev emphasized that Sber has identified two drivers for the development of biometrics. He attributed to the first the creation of affordable services that an individual can understand, such as authentication at the service, getting biometrics, and paying for transportation.
“We believe that in the future, biometrics will become a collective service, along with the internet, electricity and other familiar things. The second factor is that more than 70 percent of the customers we interviewed expressed the view that such digital services should be regulated by the government to ensure security,” he added.
Also, the director of Sberbank’s Biometrics division added that one of the primary conditions for the mass use of biometrics, voiced by Sber’s customers, is the creation of very clear government-dictated rules governing the use of biometrics.
“We fully support the federal law, which has very clear rules. And the important thing is that there is a consensus that will allow both the state to establish rules and establish a basis for biometrics in the country, and to allow business to create and develop biometric services on the basis of this foundation,” he said.
