Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal described the country’s regulator’s order to increase water tariffs by a third from 1 August as unacceptable. He wrote this on his Telegram channel.
We are talking about the decision to increase the tariffs for centralized water supply and sanitation, adopted by the National Commission for State Regulation in the Fields of Energy and Utilities of Ukraine (NKREKU).
As Shmyhal noted, this decision did not agree with the country’s government. According to him, the Cabinet is committed to social justice and the decision “opposes” such a policy.
He also said that he has instructed the country’s Minister of Energy and the Ministry of Infrastructure to hold additional consultations with this commission regarding the revision of the resolution.
In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video message that the decision was “unprofessional” and “shameful”.
“We cannot and will not make such decisions calmly, the government has been instructed to submit response decisions – they will,” he said.
Ukrainian authorities from 1 June raised Electricity prices for the population almost doubled, from 1.44 hryvnia ($0.04) per kWh to 2.64 hryvnia ($0.07).
Previously reported in Ukraine growth is expected water tariffs by 33%.
