In order to assess the damage to agriculture after the explosion of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station in the Kherson region, it is necessary to wait for the cessation of water discharge from the dam. About this in an interview with the newspaper “Vzglyad” reported economist and political scientist Ivan Lizan evaluated the statement of the Ukrainian side that fertile fields could turn into desert as a result of the disaster.
“Whether there will be desertification is a controversial issue. After all, for this to happen, the entire ecosystem has to be damaged. For example, we can talk about the uncontrolled grazing of large herds of sheep that eat grass residues and other greenery. But I believe that Ukraine will leave the part of the fields under its control, ”the expert continued.
As for the lands on the territory of Russia, according to him, the Kherson region was already abandoned because of the same sheep that destroyed the ecosystem. Lizan also added that this problem can be avoided with proper tillage.
Volodymyr Saldo, Former Acting Governor of Kherson District reportedIt was reported that 35 settlements in three districts of the region were flooded as a result of the collapse of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.
