The total damage to the Russian economy from the coronavirus pandemic amounted to at least 3.6 trillion rubles. In this respect writer “Kommersant”, referring to the report of Rospotrebnadzor.

In 2020-2022, the economic damage to Russia from the coronavirus pandemic exceeded 3.6 trillion rubles. The indicator is several times the total damage from other infectious diseases in the same period. As can be seen from the report, according to Rospotrebnadzor’s methodology, the economic damage of the disease consists of two components – these are direct medical costs and indirect losses to the economy.

The publication noted that at the end of last year, direct medical expenses for the treatment of COVID-19 could range from 760 billion to 1.35 trillion rubles. The total loss of the economy (calculated according to the lower bound) in 2022 amounted to 1.6 trillion rubles.

Market experts felt that the evaluation of the department itself was rather low, as other factors had to be taken into account in the case of indirect losses. We are talking about reducing the volume of consumption by patients and its consequences in the form of disability.

Mid-May edition of the LA Times reportedThe economic damage from the coronavirus pandemic in the United States has been reported to approach $14 trillion. For the period from 2020 to 2023, the direct cost of providing affordable medical care to citizens alone amounted to approximately $214 billion.
