In January-May, transport along the international transport corridor (ITC) “North-South” increased by 41.8% to 4 million tons. The main share fell on the western route connecting Russia with Iran via Azerbaijan – 3.6 million tons (37.9% increase). The publication noted that the increase in traffic on the eastern route was due to a number of benefits. For example, at the end of last year, a 20% discount was introduced for container transportation on the eastern route via Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
Analysts think that the increase in cargo traffic along the North-South corridor will continue. Considering that the restrictions on the supply of goods from the West can only increase, the demand for goods transport in this direction will increase. Despite a number of infrastructure constraints, growth will continue until the construction of the Rasht-Astara section is completed.
