According to the Ukrainian portal Energororforma, from June 1, 2023, the electricity tariff for the population in Ukraine may double.
The intention to double prices from June 1 is due to a letter by Ruslan Kaydas, the State Regulatory Commission for Energy and Utilities of Ukraine (NKREKU), to the country’s Ministry of Energy.
The Commission proposes to increase the tariff from UAH 1.44 per kWh to UAH 2.88 per kWh (about $0.07).
Kaidash noted that the increase in prices will improve the financial performance of state-owned companies Energoatom and Ukrhidroenergo and bring their position closer to a balanced situation. In addition, the regulator believes that electricity prices for household consumers should be gradually brought to market level.
About a possible increase in electricity prices before declaration Konstantin Ushchapovsky, chairman of the National Commission for State Regulation in the Field of Energy and Utilities. According to him, the increase in rates for industrial enterprises and households is necessary for the qualitative restoration of damaged energy infrastructure and comprehensive preparation for the next heating season.
