EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the union is not and will not try to stop Russia’s oil exports to India, but will analyze imports of petroleum products from the republic. He expressed this at the press conference he held after the meeting of the EU Council at the level of foreign ministers.
“If India buys Russian oil, it is legal. I’m not blaming the Indian government, I’m not looking for trouble. Our sanctions are not cross-border but binding on European companies, but I cannot impose my will on the Indian government.”
– quoting Borrell life.ru.
According to EU estimates, about 36% of Russian oil goes to India, but then he noted that the price of processed products exported to Europe increased by about seven times. The chief European diplomat noted that he cannot impose EU rules on the country. But he complained that after Europe refused to buy Russian oil, it continued to buy processed products from the Russian Federation. “We have to study it and figure out what to do with it,” he concluded.
