Court fines Siemens for non-fulfillment of “Sapsanov” supply contract for Russian Railways

The Moscow Arbitration Court, at the request of Russian Railways JSC (RZD), sentenced Siemens Mobility for failing to comply with a court order regarding a German subsidiary’s refusal to perform the contract. High-speed electric train supply to Sapsan declared illegal, reports DEA News.

It was announced that Siemens should supply RZD 13 “Sapsanov”.

The court partially satisfied the plaintiff’s application: Russian Railways was asked to collect a fine of about 30 million rubles per day.

Moscow Arbitration Court in February accepted It decided that the Siemens management should unlawfully refuse to fulfill the contract for the supply of Sapsan trains to Russian Railways and fulfill its obligations to the Russian side of the concern.

The contract was signed on 7 June 2019. Accordingly, Russian Railways would purchase 13 trains worth 513.5 million Euros from September 2022 to July 2023.

22 March Siemens suspended Signed a contract with Russian Railways for the purchase of new Sapsan. On May 13, the company also terminated the maintenance contract for the trains already delivered.
