EU plans to request data on non-European cash flows from organizations

According to the newspaper’s report, the European Commission (EC) plans to compel non-governmental organizations (NGOs), research institutes and the media to disclose the extent of funding from third countries. Welt am Sonntag.

The publication says that the relevant bill is scheduled to be submitted in June. It means creating a national register of non-governmental organisations, with data on whether private organizations are funded by countries outside the European Union.

Citing the words of Vera Yurova, European Commissioner for Transparency, Vice-President of the European Commission, we will propose a specific legislative initiative to protect our democracies as part of a package of measures called “Defense Democracy”.

According to him, the money flows from third countries that they try to influence the public and democratic environment should be disclosed.

The publication claims that the idea is to identify how authoritarian regimes influence public opinion or political decisions in the EU.
