In February 2023, Estonian Railways started transporting eight times less goods than in March 2007. In this respect writer Delfi’s edition refers to data from the Estonian Statistics Department.

In February this year, the freight turnover of rail transport amounted to 0.9 million tons, and in March 2007 – 7.7 million tons. It turned out that 16 years ago, more than eight times of cargo was carried by Estonian railways.

The publication noted that previously Estonian rail transport was loaded with goods from Russia. In particular, most of all oil and petroleum products have been moved. This type of transport brought Estonian companies huge profits, and turnover increased constantly. But now, because of the sanctions, Estonia’s future has changed and its profits are starting to fall.

May 5 ERR, citing the statement of Karel Lember, analyst at the country’s Ministry of Economy and Communications reportedThat the industrial decline in Estonia continues due to the decline in consumer demand.

Prior to that, the ERR, citing data from the Institute for Economic Research, wrote that food prices in Estonia rose sharply in April 2023. Vegetables, sugar, meat and dairy products increased the most. Compared to April 2022, in April 2023 the price of many products increased by tens of percent at the same time.
