The European Commission wants the “abnormal” growth in the flow of goods subject to anti-Russian sanctions to countries neighboring Russia to be explained and countermeasures taken. This was stated by Valdis Dombrovskis, Vice-President of the European Commission for Trade and Economy, at a press conference in Brussels following the meeting of EU finance ministers. DEA News.
According to Dombrovskis, recently EU member states began to review the first files on violations of restrictive measures against Russia last year.
This applies not only to EU countries, but also to third countries where an unusual increase in trade flows has been observed, including exports from the EU to neighboring countries of the Russian Federation, in particular to the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as sanctioned goods. As for other countries not participating in European sanctions, he said.
“We have asked the concerned countries to explain the abnormal flows and take effective measures to stop it,” said the EC Vice-President for Trade and Economy.
According to him, circumventing European sanctions weakens their effectiveness and creates unfair competition by damaging the EU internal market. He also added that the focus of the new 11th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation will be to stop the sanctions being circumvented.
