EDB chief says Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and other countries can join the bank

Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and other countries may eventually join the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB). This is on the sidelines of the investors conference – members of the Association of Asian and Pacific Development Institutions (ADFIAP), head of organization Nikolai Podguzov, transmits TASS.

“I would love to see both Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan among the bank’s participants. I hope these countries will join the bank over time,” he said.

According to him, negotiations between EDB and Uzbekistan are ongoing and there is convergence in many positions. Therefore, he is currently the most realistic candidate to join the bank.

January 17, Kazakhstan Finance Minister Yerulan Zhamaubaev in the open the amount the republic must pay Russia to increase its share of the EDB’s capital to just over 37%, which is just over 32%. This will cost Kazakhstan about $43 million, or 20 billion tenge. The head of the republican ministry stated that the money will be transferred in three to four years.

Prior to that, Podguzov said that EDB plans to invest about $1.5 billion in Belarus in 2023.
