Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the weekly government meeting that the Jewish state intends to develop cooperation with Cyprus in the energy sector. TASS.

He briefed the ministers on the results of his meeting with the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, who visited Israel on 11 May. According to the Israeli Cabinet chief, he and the Cypriot leader agreed at the meeting to further develop the Israel-Cyprus-Greece alliance of Middle Eastern democracies.

“The alliance we formed a few years ago has very important hopes, especially in terms of Israel’s position as an energy power,” he said.

According to the politician, during the meeting with the President of Cyprus, they paid great attention to energy issues.

The project we are focusing on is to supply gas from Israel to Europe via a gas pipeline from our gas fields to a gas liquefaction plant to be built in Cyprus.”

Netanyahu said that “this connection” will take Israel’s economy to a new level and strengthen Israel’s position as an important international energy supplier.

He also pointed out that Europe needs energy, including gas.

“Creating an efficient and cheap gas supply from Israel to Europe is something that greatly strengthens Israel’s position,” Netanyahu added.
