Iranian Justice Minister Amin Hossein Rahimi said countries affected by the sanctions should form a “sanctions club” and develop legal mechanisms to withstand the pressure. Description by Rahimi in St. Petersburg International Law Forum “Sovereignty in Law”.
“Why should we only use the dollar? Of course, it is necessary to exclude the dollar as an international currency. We should replace the dollar with our national currencies. It can certainly be done,” the minister suggested.
Rahimi also took the initiative to create a financial messaging system within the club instead of SWIFT. According to the Iranian official, the “sanctions club” will be able to bring together like-minded states against Western sanctions pressure “within the framework of sovereignty, law and international law”.
