Finland has found an alternative to fuel from Russia in the form of Italian waste used to generate electricity. In this respect writer Yle.
Finland has started using the garbage produced by the country’s residents to generate heat and electricity. Also, Italian waste will soon be added to the local waste. All this happened due to the cessation of the flow of timber from the Russian side due to Russia’s special operation in Ukraine. For this reason, energy companies using wood began to experience a shortage.
Market participants felt that the volume of local waste was no longer sufficient, so it had to be sourced from other countries. At the same time, Italian waste is not much different from Finnish waste, as it is ordinary household waste from which biological waste is extracted.
Experts agree that the approaching winter can be tough, as the demand for wood is constantly increasing and waste is decreasing due to batch processing. But waste imports will continue to increase in the future, as fuel shortages worry many companies in Finland.
19 March Hungarian Energy Minister Csaba Lantos declarationThat Europe has reduced its gas supply from Russia by eight times, but at the same time that the region cannot fully ensure its energy security without Russian fuel. According to him, it is difficult for Europe to compensate for Russian supplies, because these are very large volumes and it is not easy to find alternatives.
