April 12 Russian company Novatek accepted Permission from the government of the Russian Federation to purchase Shell’s stake in Sakhalin Energy, the operator of the Sakhalin-2 project. We are talking about the sale of 27.5% of Sakhalin Energy for 94.8 billion rubles.
Until recently, the main shareholders of Sakhalin Energy were the Russian energy conglomerate Gazprom and Shell (27.5% minus one share), Mitsui & Co. (12.5% shares) and Mitsubishi group of companies (10% shares). Thus, following the government’s decision, the number of shareholders in the operator of the Sakhalin-2 project was reduced to three companies.
At the end of June 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the transfer to the state of Sakhalin Energy, the operator of the Sakhalin-2 oil and gas project.
