Russian officials may be prohibited from owning property in unfriendly countries. Draft law containing relevant innovations registered and sent to the President of the State Duma.
The explanatory note of the document states that it is prepared to prohibit certain categories of people from owning real estate in a foreign state and territory, committing hostile acts against the Russian Federation and Russian legal entities.
On January 5, 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed amending the Russian constitution accordingly, banning persons “critical to ensuring the security and sovereignty of the country” from holding citizenship of foreign states and banning accounts in such states. Lawmakers recall that this proposal was implemented by amending existing regulatory legislation, but that these individuals retained their right to own real estate in foreign countries.

In particular, it is proposed to prohibit persons holding public positions in the Russian Federation and constituent entities of the country, including the president, head of government, federal ministers, judges, deputies of the State Duma and senators, from acquiring property in unfriendly countries.
