The club of US insurers refused to service the Indian company Gatik Ship Management, which has become the largest oil carrier from Russia. Thus, the Russian “shadow” fleet received a serious blow. In this respect informs Bloomberg agency.
The publication noted that Gatik Ship Management was not known before and did not have a significant share in the fuel transportation sector. But by 2022 it has built a fleet of 48 tankers capable of carrying more than 30 million barrels of oil. It is also known that all of the company’s ships call at Russian ports and export oil and petroleum products from there.
According to the agency, the American side considered the actions of the Indian company as a violation of anti-Russian sanctions, especially the price ceiling. Therefore, Gatik’s insurance service was not provided. We are talking about “protection and compensation” insurance, which is about covering the risks in the event of a possible oil spill. In addition, without this insurance, tankers will not be able to enter certain ports and straits.
In early February, Bloomberg, based on statistics from Trafigura analysts reportedAfter the entry into force of the European Union (EU) embargo on the import of raw materials from the Russian Federation, Russia’s “shadow” fleet, transporting oil from this country to various parts of the world, grew to a record high – up to about 600 tankers. Iran and Venezuela, which are also subject to international sanctions, cannot compete with Moscow in this indicator.
