Ukraine’s Ministry of Infrastructure said the extension of the grain deal was under threat. This was reported by the Ukrainian edition of “Strana.ua”.
According to the publication, the Ukrainian authorities cite the Russian side’s re-blocking of the inspection of bulk carriers as the reason.
It was stated that Russia unilaterally stopped the inspection of the ships in the Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul as of April 10. In this context, the functioning of the grain agreement is under threat.
Former press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov reacted To UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ concerns about the grain deal slipping.
According to Peskov, the prospects for the deal are “still not that bright” and the terms of the second part of the deal “do not tend to improve.”
Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for the Secretary-General, had previously said members of the UN Secretary-General’s team were working “in close cooperation with the parties involved, which is key to keeping this vital agreement in effect”.
