The Central Bank of the Russian Federation supported import substitution in the banking market, but noted the difficulties associated with the replacement of terminals. In this respect Wrote TASS with reference to the editor’s press service.
“We are aware of such a problem… We support the issue of import substitution in general. Some steps have already been taken in this area. At the same time, if Russian software and operating systems can replace foreign software, and there are such analogues, then the situation is different in equipment and infrastructure: there are not always alternatives,” he said.
Earlier, the Association of Russian Banks appealed to the Ministry of Industry and Trade with a request to allocate subsidies to representatives of the payment industry. As stated in the letter, money is needed for import substitution of POS terminals in order to accept the cards of the French manufacturer Ingenico, which has left the Russian market. The share of Ingenico terminals accounts for about 50% of all operating terminals on the market – about 2 million. In the letter, it was noted that banks estimated the upcoming replacement of equipment at 40 billion rubles.
The Bank of Russia explained that the issue of allocation and size determination of subsidies is under the jurisdiction of the Russian government. The Central Bank called this task the system and noted that it should be addressed, including at the producer level.
