German insurance companies Allianz and Munich Re renewed their insurance coverage for the Nord Stream gas pipeline, which was damaged in the explosions in September last year. Agency reports Reuters with reference to sources.
It is noted that the insurance policy covers the damages caused by sabotage and the problems related to the interruption of the pipeline’s operation. The availability of insurance will also facilitate the repair work needed to continue gas supplies to Europe via the Baltic Sea.
The source told the agency that the German government had no objections to the insurance. At the same time, other sources say some of Nord Stream’s German shareholders are in favor of protecting the damaged pipeline if relations with Russia improve.
Also, those close to the German government told Reuters that a minority hopes for Nord Stream’s resurgence, but few believe it will happen in the near future.
Damage and gas leaks were recorded on three lines of Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 on September 26, 2022. Seismologists recorded two explosions along the gas pipelines. Russia’s FSB has filed a lawsuit over an international terrorist act. The Swedish prosecutor’s office launched an investigation into the events.
Before The Washington Post WroteIt was stated that the Andromeda yacht, which was linked to the attacks on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, was not the only vessel involved in the sabotage.
