Russians reduce savings on long-term deposits to a minimum in 10 years

According to the RBC online publication, the volume of savings of Russians on deposits with a term of one year or more in accounts at credit institutions as of January 1, 2023 was 7.92 trillion rubles, the minimum in the last 10 years. Data from the Central Bank of Russia.

Balances in similar accounts in January 2013 are estimated at 8.39 trillion rubles.

In 2022, the total volume of long-term household deposits in Russian banks decreased by 30.4%, or RUB 3.45 trillion. Mainly, the decrease occurred in foreign currency deposits, where investments decreased by 62.4% and amounted to 1.18 trillion rubles. Long deposits in rubles fell almost a quarter (24.3%) to 6.74 trillion.
