Transmashholding consortium to supply 1,920 wagons worth $1.7 billion to India

Russian Transmashholding will supply 120 passenger electric trains (1,920 cars) worth more than $1.7 billion to India. Wrote The newspaper Vedomosti cites the press service of the construction division of Indian Railways Ministry Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a subsidiary of Indian national rail carrier Indian Railways (IR).

The Russian-Indian consortium, of which Transmashholding is a member, won the tender for the supply of these wagons to India. RVNL has a 25% stake in the consortium, with the remaining 75% owned by Transmashholding (Metrovagonmash and Locomotive Electronic Systems – 70% and 5% respectively).

Soon the parties should sign a contract. It is not specified when this will happen.

From the tender document read by the publication, it is understood that the production will be established at Latura and Indian Railways factories in Chennai, India, while the winner of the tender has to modernize the production facilities and warehouse. The contract also provides for the maintenance of the wagons for 35 years.
