The Kappus soap factory in Riesa, eastern Germany, will close at the end of 2023 after 114 years of operation. Wrote bild newspaper.

The fact is that the soap factory has been having problems paying payments since October 2022.

According to 59-year-old Axel Buchholz, who has owned the factory since 1992, not a single investor wanted to buy the business with its old equipment. The plant manager stated that the employees will be offered a job at one of the enterprises in the neighboring city of Heitersheim.

The facility was built in 1909. After World War II, this factory produced 80% of the soap needed by the German Democratic Republic (GDR). Domestic production solid soap was also exported to other countries.

Auto Moto und Sport building in the second half of November 2022 reportedthat the company Bia Forst, which supplies chrome-plated three-beam stars to the conveyors of automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz, will close its factory due to the decrease in demand for its products.
